The Pop Guru Delusion. A mirage. Part I.

And it is your fault, you deserve these pop gurus because you want to be spoon fed the truth.

Pick up a popular science book. Read the scriptures first hand to see what is actually written on inner discipline instead of having a pop guru reinterpret it for you. It’s harmless. Knowledge is harmless you know? That Netflix movie will wait, believe me. That porn site will still be here tomorrow morning, don’t worry. Pick up a book.

Real education begins after school & college is over. No matter how brutal life gets, pick up those books instead of running to a pop guru for generic life advice. Have some self respect. Read the Gita first before asking them to break it down to you their biased coloured interpretations. Have some self respect. Read a pop science book which has explained basic concepts, before you jump into metaphysical speculations and ask a pop guru about life after death. Have some self respect, read on how far science has come, appreciate how far us cavemen have come. We had the audacity to measure the circumference of the earth, to the distance between earth to sun, to the age of the universe itself. How can you call yourself spiritual when you simply worry about what happens to your soul when you reach heaven or hell. How narcissistic.

Have sone respect, develop the passion for truth. Truth is your birthright. It is the bare minimum you deserve.

The reason I urge everyone to read popular science is because of the way science is taught at school and colleges: Simply to get passing marks, earn degrees, find a job. Most of us miss the beauty of it. To understand the cosmos is our birth right, and to be ignorant of it causes a lot of problems. Our minds become petty. That is the root cause of our mental issues, petty comparison, jealousy, fighting, yearning for admiration, even poor choices and it directly affects the quality our lives. Sit and admire the cosmos. Science help us see reality as accurately as we can and it is important we stay in touch with reality. You say “what does a distant star have to do with your happiness?” Imagine spending your morning drinking coffee admiring that distant star and how brilliantly the Hubble photographed it instead of worrying about the insult you received from a co worker. That would be a completely different morning. You won’t need a pop spiritual guru, trust me. Pop Guru is a Mirage. A placebo pill. I’m not suggesting science replace spiritual practices, no. Science supplements your practice and grounds you first. If you want to explore spirituality, just meditate, read the Gita, Dhammapada, tao te Ching, Ramana Maharshi, Shivananda, preliminary introduction to Advaita written by eminent scholars etc. Any book you like. Make a scientific study on spiritual practices yourself. You’re not a child. Observe. And soon enough you’ll be clever and see through all the pop guru business tactics. You’re smart, you’ll figure it out.
